So I’m sitting on a bright yellow bean bag at FOWA wondering quite why I haven’t seen the Tumblr interface since June. It’s not that I dislike Tumblr, far from it. It’s just a question of time. Last few months have been manic, so here’s a recap.
Firstly there was the week of three events, Activate, 2morro festival and Reboot Britain with some heavy involvement in all three. That was what kept me busy for the remainder of June.
Where did July go? Oh yes something quite secret and prototypey for The Guardian.
How about August? Well that was taken up with something quite prototypey for the BMJ which we’ll be working on from next week. And I also took a short holiday which I’ll write about later on today as it had a lot of technology and a lot to do with some of the thinking I’ve been doing of late.
Which brings me to September. Which has been all about working and speaking about Open Platform at The Guardian, first keynoting at the Gartner Portals Content and Collaboration summit and now today at FOWA. Slides for both of the talks will be going on Slideshare soon and I’ve got a fun weekend ahead revising the Jaggeree site to pull in stuff dynamically from Tumblr, Flickr, Slideshare in addition to the exisiting minimal Twitter side of things.
Then there was one more thing, yesterday the UK Government released a developer preview of their data and APIs. It’s early days, but it’s been fun being part of an advisory group on this project and about 17 years after first building a webpage I finally got to meet Sir Tim BL. It was exciting spending a few days in the last week or so helping the Cabinet Office team launch this. I hope in a few years time we’ll look back on September 30th as a seminal day in building a data economy in the UK.
