I like serendipity. It provides the most wonderful and moving things, even sometimes about the saddest subjects. At the weekend in our local DIY shop the guy behind the counter gave me a flyer about a film being screened over the next few days. It’s by his nephew (Raj Babbra) and it’s about a woman who was killed in the 7/7 terrorist attacks; Benedetta Ciaccia.
Benedetta was Raj’s best friend. The film is basically an exploration of the hole left in families by terrorist attacks. The names of those who die are listed but never those who are left behind dealing with loss. This film fills in those details of how one person’s untimely death leaves a void.
the film “powerfully shares the experience of losing a loved one rather than being desensitized to the knowledge that people died”
The trailer is available online and Raj is taking the film to New York to be shown on September 11th 2008. I really wish him well with this project. Documentary and story telling are so important as are efforts like WalkTalk. If we’re to learn anything from the past we need to know about the consequences of terrorism and talk openly about them and about the commonality and differences in the world.
