Does greed have a place in our museums / Oct 12th 2008

I really love how London museums are often free. It’s something I always feel so proud of when I take people from abroad around. Of course we all know they’re only free because of the subsidies we all pay in taxes. We’re having a great post FOWA family weekend and are at the Science Museum as part of it. It’s been a dream of mine to come here with Sam since before he was born and I couldn’t have been happier than when he pointed at the Difference Engine and said wow!

However there was a very different wow about the £2.50 small but perfectly formed bottle of pressed apple juice. Very nice but the self same bottles are the ones you find in Eat for about £1 less. Seems like greed to me. A captive market to be tapped slightly cynically. Hopefully in these days of recession and economic model change examples of greed such as this will diminish through people voting with their feet and packed lunches. Thermos of tea next time…
